About Me

Tim Branson

Tim is a professional and committed counsellor/therapist working both in the National Health Service, the third sector and private practice.

  • Tim has a BSC (Hons) Degree from Surrey and Roehampton University in Integrative Counselling ('integrative' means he believes that no one model of working with someone 'is best'.  That no model of intervention should necessarily dominate another).  Using his experience of many different and complementary models, he will always bring the most appropriate interventions to the therapy session, and hence hopefully be able to facilitate some positive change, working mostly short term.
  • Tim also supervises other counsellors and holds a Masters Degree (MSc in Counselling Supervision from the University of Southampton).  Part of his NHS role has been to supervise both Primary Care GP counsellors and also Mental Health workers in the Secondary Care Acute and Recovery multi-disciplinary Community Mental Health Team in which he is currently employed as a Psychological Therapist /Specialist Counsellor and Supervisor.
  • He also has a Post Graduate Diploma at Advanced Level in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) from the University of Southampton.
  • He is a Senior Accredited member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) including Supervision, the British Association for Behavioural and Cognitive Therapy (BABCP), the Universities Counselling and Psychotherapy Association (UPCA) and an accredited member of the National Counselling Society MNCS Accred). He is also fully (part 4) trained in Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR).  If you are struggling with TRAUMA, then google this psychological intervention, or call Tim for a chat.  It is the treatment of choice (NICE Guidelines).
  • In the past he has experience of working with suicidal people, young people, Bereavement clients, Employee Assistance Programmes, Cross Cultural clients, Gay and Lesbian clients, Complex, severe and enduring Mental Health clients, general client counselling, groups, supervision of other therapists individually and in groups and training other therapists, counselling volunteers and interpreters for counselling sessions.
  • He is an Associate Lecturer at the University of Winchester.
  • His interests and experience include change, working with complex cases, OCD, brief therapy, anxiety and depression, abuse and domestic violence, the effects of our past on our present - cause and effect rather than blame and judgement - working with Existential issues (er.. simply, that we are all going to die one day, and the effect that has on our existence.. sorry!) CBT and loads more.
  • He offers a detailed initial assessment session and is delighted to discuss your needs, wants and fears about therapy, and to take all the time needed to fully explain what is on offer and whether or not it is what you want.  In some cases of course, counselling is not immediately appropriate, and an onward referral might be discussed and made.
  • He is used to working with complex cases sometimes over brief periods (6 - 20 weeks) and also offers longer term therapy if needs be, but rarely works with someone for more than a year.

"The work that you do with me will be led by you, so do not hesitate to call for advice and free discussion about what might be available for you.

I don't use my voicemail so please text and leave a brief message, as I am often busy with clients.  I will call you back as soon as I can".
